As an artist, I constantly strive to explore and create new work. Since I started working in the silk painting medium, my exhibited art has gone through several major transitions.
I was invited to solo exhibit at The Gail Piazza gallery in March 2008, which led to exploration of a new body of work. In this exhibition, Blurring the Line, I used different processes for creating my paintings. Up to this point, I had worked with the serti painting process, a Chinese form of batik. Feeling that I had fully explored the conventions of this process, I used creative innovations to break through the traditional techniques governing the Chinese methods. While at first using lines to create texture and physical barriers to control the blending of dyes, in my new work, I broke these rules, hence the title for my show Blurring the Line. Using few or no linear markings allowed me to work more loosely within the composition and thus achieve more fluidity in the brush strokes.
I was pleased this exhibition was well-received, and it pushed my artistic explorations into new directions.
